WHY ONE GOD ONE CHURCH
INTRODUCTION
Whenever I had mentioned my vision for a “church,” no matter who I spoke with, they all had the same answer: “It will never happen!” I spoke with, and wrote to several pastors, priests and other leaders in the Southern Baptist, Evangelical, Protestant and Catholic communities.
So, what was this radical, crazy idea that had them looking at me like I was crazy? It was, “One God, One Church.” I just wanted to gather enough people in the religious community to try to acknowledge our differences and come under one house; the house of Jesus Christ. That is why my wife, Karen and I formed, “OG OC.” One God, One Church.
WARNING: The next two paragraphs may sound harsh; like I am complaining. Not so: I am just trying to illustrate our need for OG OC. Please stick with me and you will see.
We thought this would be a no brainer; then we realized why it is the impossible mission, in their eyes. All we had to do was turn on the television.
There are many evangelists on television to choose from. Their messages are often from the heart and true to the word of God. Some of you may have a favorite mentor, like we do (we really believe in the importance of choosing a great mentor). Through our years of searching, we have become disheartened with some of the television and online preacher, who seem to be treating their ministries as a viable and lucrative business. Sometimes the pursuit of the dollar can get in the way of a true Godly message that could benefit everyone. Now, there are pastors, priests and other spiritual leaders who don’t take advantage of their members/viewers. They don’t have lavish lifestyles; they put the money you send into planting more churches and helping those in need.
Some preach the Good News in a way that is mostly good news for them. They hypnotize you with their carefully worded, heart-tugging messages. These men and women live in multi-million-dollar mansions, have private jets and Rolls Royces. They reach millions of homes with, “For your Love Gift of $25, (or more), we’ll send you (fill in the blank here). It is usually a CD or trinket that cost them a few cents, so they may continue their lifestyles. What does that CD really cost when it is mass produced? Think about it; if one of these preachers reaches 7,000,000 viewers each week and only five percent of them commit to that $25 per month, that provides revenue of over $8,000,000 per month. I believe a certain actor in a, “Jerky” movie said it best. He got a job in a carnival. The owner put him as the person who guesses your weight. He didn’t know the first thing about guessing anyone’s weight. On his first day, he got every person’s weight wrong. As a result, he had to give them a prize. He was worried his boss was going to fire him. The boss comes over and the actor gives him the bad news: “I didn’t get anyone’s weight right.” The boss tells the actor; “Look, you charge a dollar to guess a person’s weight. You get it wrong and give them a prize. They leave happy because they won something. Well, that prize cost me fifteen cents.” The actor’s eyes light up and he says, “Oh, it’s a profit game.” That movie is nearly thirty years old. I think a lot of the TV preachers saw it and thought the same thing.
We pray the Lord will bless our One God One Church and its mission. We hop you will join us on this journey.
